Fashion Show at Fashion Tendance, Ambarukmo Hotel Pool and Plaza

When it comes to fashion show, most of people would love to sits back and enjoy the show. But we, photographers, are not most people. Some of us forget that and just go sit somewhere convenient where he/she thinks is the best spot then just shoots every models that passing by. Well, maybe that's the best view. all shot looks crisp, models looks fabulous, and it's clear, but where the plays in it? Since I believe photographer is an artist, we need to play with it like we make some art. Pictures collection from models with the same spot, same background and lighting would just look like a slide show. And most of photographer gonna sit on the safe spot where light would hit model flatly so everything could be seen. But photography is an art of lighting, which means we need to play with shadows.
So I'm like moving on 4 different spots on this session to get the results that I want.

Some spot I took taking place in the back of lighting that gave nice rim light and unusual lighting.

I'm standing on not-favorite spot alone with no other photographers, with light casts on me, even though I'm standing behind the audiences, I stand out enough to catch the model attention and then "shot!", I got picture of she looking directly at me.

Me and My Gears.

I'm using Nikon D80 and two lenses. One was comes in one package with the body, the kit lense, AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm 1/3,5-5,6 and one fix lense AF Nikkor 50mm 1:1.8D.
The kit is standar purpose lense with an-okay quality, and the fix lense has nicer and clearer result, but it's a fix lense, means you can change anything other than focal length, which is the factor where I'm playing with the feels and compotitions. So I use both in length they shines. I use fix lense on 50mm only ofcourse, and the kit been use on wider length, and most of the time I only use its widest, 18mm.
I got some flash diffuser too, it comes in three colors.
As you can see I'm not using any super high priced or professional gears. The body and kit I got on second hand from my friend which costs me about Rp5,5mil, and the fix lense is a brand new but still cheap lense I bought from the store for Rp1,3 mil. It's about 1,5 years ago so the price should be lower now. The diffuser? It's only Rp75k.

Because I believe, the most important gear that determines our works is the one that comes free, our brain.

Samurai Girl, Night Photo Session

  Model/Cosplayer: Coco

This is my first night photosession. It's kinda challenging. More of it, the costume is black so it's kinda hard to make it stand out from the background. But I just found out that night session could give surprising color and lighting. And night atmosphere giving more private and intimate session, which is connection between photographer and model is important, then I could say I really enjoyed this session.
